About Us

We are a group of enthusiastic mandolinists who have banded together to create a small orchestra. We gather on Sunday mornings at 11:00 at the Peterborough Arts Umbrella building, 378 Aylmer St. North, to practise unique arrangements of pieces from a variety of musical genres.

How did the Mandolin Society come to be?

Our founder and conductor, Curtis Driedger, initiated the Mandolin Society in 2003 in the front room of his home, but it soon outgrew the available space and moved to the Peterborough Art School studio at the Charlotte Mews. Recently our practices have been held at the Peterborough Arts Umbrella building.

Who can join the Mandolin Society?

The Society is for amateur mandolin players, or professionals who have patience with same. Fairly regular attendance at Sunday morning practices is needed. We play from musical scores, so some expertise at reading music or willingness to learn is needed. Beginning readers can sometimes get by with a tape recorder and extra practice at home.

What styles of music are played?

We play a little of everything - waltzes, show tunes, reels, techno-pop, blues, even a few original compositions......and try not to take it all too seriously.
